William P. Kampert, 90, of State College, died Tuesday, March 23, 2021, at Mount Nittany Medical Center.

Born February 19, 1931, in Duquesne, he was the son of the late William and Katherine Lang Kampert. On September 8, 1956 he married Barbara Miller of Indiana PA, who survives.

In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by three children, Kathryn Nelson and her husband David of State College, Elizabeth Kendall of Enola, and William Kampert and his wife Susan of Wilmington, DE; six grandchildren (Tom, Chris, Shelby, Ian, Will, and Kailyn); and four great-grandchildren.

After graduation from the Indiana State Teacher’s College in 1954, Bill served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. He earned his Master’s degree in chemistry from Penn State University in 1961.

Bill worked as a Senior Technologist for Alcoa. He was the inventor of six patents, which included the anodized color finish of the aluminum on the exterior of the John Hancock building and Sears (Willis) Tower in Chicago as well as the Pittsburgh Press building. In addition, he was responsible for the bronze color finish widely used in aluminum doors and windows. He also worked on a lubricant for memory disks, chrome plating on automobile bumpers, and metal coated fibers used in the aerospace industry. He retired in 1993 after 33 years of service.

He attended Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church.

Bill enjoyed skiing, golfing, and vacationing with family and friends. His favorite pastime was watching the birds from his back porch.
