Winifred “Winnie” Shoemaker, 84, died Saturday, July 12, 2025, at home with family by her side, in Philipsburg, Pa.
She was born on August 13, 1940, in Peekskill, New York, to William Grifford Mackey and Alene Lorretta (Ryan) Mackey. She grew up in Verplanck, New York, “the Point;” where she attended St. Patrick’s Catholic School. She lived her life with grace & kindness.
She married Edward (Butch) R. Shoemaker, Sr., on August 19, 1962, who she met while he was in Verplanck on a work assignment. After they were married, they lived in Delaware; but, returned to Philipsburg to reside permanently. They shared fifty-nine beautiful years together. Their bond was unshakable, a true testament to enduring love, which continues to inspire their family.
Winnie began her career as a typist for Reader’s Digest; before finishing her professional life at Charles Navasky & Co. sewing factory. She also briefly operated a cake decorating business from her home; while her husband was an electrical lineman.
Winnie enjoyed playing bingo, trips to the casino, trips to the beach, & spending time with family & friends. She enjoyed family get-togethers for holidays and any occasion delighted her, especially when it included lots of sweets & hot dogs. But her favorite holiday was Christmas. She loved Christmas shopping from QVC & HSN.
She was preceded in joining the Lord by: her mother and father, William and Alene Mackey; her husband, Edward “Butch” Shoemaker, Sr.; and the following siblings: Caroline “Kay” Brennan, Dorothy “Pearl” Cuveron, Robert “Bobby” Mackey, William “Billy” Mackey and Harold “Timmy” Mackey.
She is survived by her brothers: Joseph “Joe” Mackey, Donald “Don” Mackey, and Richard “Rich” Mackey; three sons and their spouses: Edward and Deborah, Ryan and Elizabeth and Dean and Vincent; one stepson: Ronald “Ronnie”; five grandchildren: Wyatt, Paige, Chelsea, Connor and Chase; and one great-granddaughter, Lainey.
Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
Although Winnie’s physical presence may no longer grace our lives, her spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us. May her memory be a blessing, and may we carry forth her legacy of love and compassion in all that we do.
