Memorial Day

Boalsburg lays claim to being the birthplace of Memorial Day with observances dating back to 1864. At that time Emma Hunter, Sophie Keller, and Elizabeth Meyer paid tribute to loved ones lost in the Civil War by placing flowers on their graves. Now Boalsburg gets ready for its observance with several fun and reflective local memorial activities on Memorial Day and the days preceding the holiday.

Monday May 28, 2018, 10 am to 4 pm:
The Columbus and Boal Mansion are open for scheduled tours, and the grounds feature Civil War re-enactors, live music, food, arts and craft vendors, a petting zoo, a marionette puppet show and tours of the Columbus Chapel.
The Memorial Day service at 6 pm in the adjacent Boalsburg cemetery.
