Penn State Athletics Reports 11 COVID-19 Cases Following Latest Round of Testing

Penn State athletics reported just 11 COVID-19 positive test results within the department following the latest round of testing. The news comes after two straight weeks of a spike in COVID-19 positives.

For the period of Jan. 30-Feb. 5, Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics conducted 1,908 COVID-19 tests of students with 11 positive tests and one inconclusive result.

The department reported 34 positives last week and 37 two weeks ago.

As per usual, total tests are not representative of total student-athletes and support staff members tested as all are required to be tested at least once a day per Big Ten health and safety regulations.

Penn State men’s hockey is currently under a program pause due to positive test results among Tier 1 personnel which could include student-athletes, coaches, trainers, and other staff members. In turn the

Penn State wrestling is also impacted due to COVID-19 results within the Iowa program. The No. 3 Nittany Lions were slated to face the No. 1 Hawkeyes on Friday but the match was postponed after Iowa’s Athletic Department suspended wrestling team activities on Monday.

Centre County reported 43 new cases on Wednesday as the Commonwealth reported roughly 3,300 new cases.
