Penn State Football: Nittany Lions Add Another To Nation’s Top Ranked Class

Penn State added yet another name to its already loaded 2022 recruiting class on Thursday evening giving the Nittany Lions 25 verbal commitments in the nation’s No. 1 overall class.

The addition this time – three-star offensive lineman Andre Roye out of St. Frances Academy in Baltimore who choose Penn State over the likes of Maryland, Arizona State and Rutgers among others.

The six-foot-six, 320 pound offensive tackle is rated the No. 23 prospect in the state of Maryland and the No. 80 overall offensive tackle in the class according to the 247 Network.

As previously mentioned Penn State’s 2022 class is currently ranked the nation’s best, which by default also makes it the best in the Big Ten ahead of Ohio State, Michigan and Rutgers so far. With 25 verbal commitments Penn State’s class is unlikely to get much larger while Ohio State and Alabama each sit with just 14 verbal commitments each. Georgia, Texas A&M and Clemson are similarly sparse so far this cycle.

In turn it remains to be seen if Penn State ultimately holds on to its top spot in the nation when the class is all said and done, nevertheless James Franklin and his staff have put together one of their best hauls ever as the recruiting calendar continues to roll along.

Roye joins Drew Shelton, JB Nelson and Maleek McNeil as the offensive line prospects in Penn State’s 2022 class. The Nittany Lions have two commitments in their very young 2023 class including five-star offensive line prospect Alex Birchmeier who is rated the No. 38 overall prospect and the top interior offensive lineman in the cycle.
