Penn State Football: Nittany Lions Add Wideout to 2023 Class

Penn State added to its 2023 recruiting class on Wednesday evening as receiver Ejani Shakir verbally committed to the Nittany Lions.

Shakir, a four-star prospect on the 247 Network and a three-star on the site’s composite rankings, chose Penn State over West Virginia and Boston College, among others. He’s the first wide receiver to join the Nittany Lions for the 2023 cycle.

A native of Atco, New Jersey, Shakir plays at Pennsauken High School while hitting the scales at 6 feet, 175-pounds. He is rated the third-best prospect in New Jersey and the No. 27-ranked wide receiver in the 2023 class, according to 247Sports.

Shakir committed to Penn State as a wideout but also has spent time at defensive back while in high school.

Penn State now has 12 players verbally committed to the Nittany Lions’ 2023 class which is currently ranked the fifth-best in the nation and the second-best in the Big Ten behind Ohio State. The group is headlined by five-star offensive line prospect Alex Birchmeier.
