Penn State Football: Six Nittany Lions Land Combine Invitation

no description

Penn State football announced Tuesday that six Nittany Lions have received invitations to the 2021 NFL Combine as the program’s March 25th Pro Day approaches.

Practically speaking the combine won’t happen in its traditional format in 2021 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The NFL reportedly told teams in a memo earlier this year that the combine will change formats, with no in-person workouts while virtual interviews and psychological testing will continue with official medical evaluations happening at various locations.

In turn while the recognition of being invited to the event still holds some meaning to players, Penn State’s on-campus Pro Day looks to be a far more important event.

Generally speaking Pro Day – formal workouts in front of league scouts and executives – has been reserved for players who either were not invited to the combine, were injured when the combine took place or invitees who want to test again – often the 40-yard dash or bench-press among other agility or on-field competencies.

As a result Penn State ought to see a fairly active event this season with a good number of NFL-hopeful players set to test the draft waters this offseason in addition to the six formally invited to the league’s event.

Penn State’s six player group is headlined by Top 10-15 pick hopeful linebacker Micah Parsons as well as first or second round tight end Pat Freiermuth.

Defensive end Jayson Oweh will also look to live up to his own hype, a physical specimen who is expected to put up impressive numbers with this athleticism throughout the event. He will be joined by fellow defensive end Shaka Toney while offensive linemen Michal Menet and Will Fries round out the group.
