Penn State Football Stays Just Outside Top 10 in Latest College Football Playoff Rankings

Penn State football stayed put at No. 11 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings as the Nittany Lions beat Rutgers 55-10 for their ninth win of the year last Saturday afternoon.

Penn State’s ranking in the poll matches the Nittany Lions’ place in the latest AP Top 25 which was released on Sunday. Some Penn State fans were hopeful that the Nittany Lions might split into the Top 10 following No. 5 Tennessee’s blowout loss to South Carolina and injury to start quarterback Hendon Hooker but the Volunteers fell just five spots to No. 10 in the poll.

Elsewhere in the top 10, No. 3 Michigan hung on to defeat Illinois while No. 2 Ohio State fended off Maryland in Columbus to round out a busy day of conference action. No. 1 Georgia beat Kentucky 16-6 while No. 4 TCU and No. 5 LSU all hung on for close victories during a dramatic day of action that ultimately only saw Tennessee falling in a upset.

Heading into the final weekend of the regular season the Nittany Lions are probable favorites to land in the Citrus Bowl unless both Michigan and Ohio State were to make the playoffs, in which case Penn State would find itself headed to the Big Ten affiliated Rose Bowl.
