Penn State Hockey: Ohio State Series Postponed Amid COVID-19 Positives

Penn State men’s hockey’s upcoming series against Ohio State has been postponed due to positive COVID-19 tests within the Nittany Lions’ program, according to the team.

An undisclosed number of positive tests were found among the team’s “Tier 1” personnel, which could include student-athletes, coaches, trainers, and other staff members.

Both teams said they’ll work with the Big Ten to “identify rescheduling options” for later in the season. The two-game series originally featured games on Friday, February 12, and Saturday, February 13.

Penn State did not indicate it’s paused team activities at the moment. It did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the newly discovered positive tests.

The 9-9 Nittany Lions haven’t hit the ice yet this month thanks to a series postponement on Michigan’s end. They last played against Notre Dame in a 3-2 overtime loss on January 29.

Should Penn State get cleared to play anytime soon, its next scheduled game would be against Arizona State on Saturday, February 20.
