Penn State To Host Women’s Hockey Power Wisconsin In 2022-23

Penn State women’s hockey will host Wisconsin for the first time ever on September 22nd and 23rd during the upcoming season. The Badgers recently released their entire 2022-23 slate which features the Nittany Lions in the opening weekend of the year.

Unlike the men’s side, women’s college hockey does not have a Big Ten Conference.

The Nittany Lions have yet to release their own schedule so it remains to be seen if Penn State will open the year with the marquee showdown.

Penn State has only faced Wisconsin – a power in women’s hockey – one other time, this coming in the 2019-20 season when the Nittany Lions traveled to Madison, falling to the then No. 1 ranked Badgers 7-0 and 3-0 in back-to-back games.

The Nittany Lions finished the 2021-22 season at 18-10-5 while Wisconsin managed a 26-8-4 record, falling in the second round of the women’s NCAA hockey tournament. Ohio State women’s hockey would eventually win the national title, at Pegula Ice Arena which hosted the Women’s Frozen Four last year.

Penn State enters its seventh season under head coach Jeff Kampersal who was named the 2020-21 CHA Coach of the Year and AHCA National Coach of the Year finalist as he lead the Nittany Lion to their first CHA regular season championship and a 16-3-2 overall record.
