Penn State Women’s Soccer to Play Alabama State in NCAA Tournament First Round

Despite a heartbreaking defeat in the Big Ten semifinals, Penn State women’s soccer received the No. 17 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

The Nittany Lions (10-2-1) will face Alabama State in the tournament’s first round at 7 p.m. on April 28 in Cary, North Carolina. No. 16 Vanderbilt awaits the winner of that contest in the second round.

Alabama State went 8-2-2 this year, and won the SWAC conference title in penalty kicks against Grambling State on April 11.

This will be the 26th consecutive tournament appearance for Penn State.

Elsewhere in the Big Ten, Cinderella story Iowa qualified as the at-large bid after winning the conference title on Sunday.

The Hawkeyes will take on Campbell, with both Rutgers-Southeastern Louisiana and Ohio State-Stony Brook on the same region of the bracket.

Erica Dambach’s team will play on May 1 if it wins the opening contest against Alabama State. Broadcast information is currently to be determined.
