Portion of Pike Street in Lemont to Be Closed for Two Weeks

A section of Pike Street in Lemont will be closed for two weeks beginning Tuesday as work continues on the traffic calming and accessibility project in the village.

The street will be closed between Mount Nittany Road and Dale Street “to allow for more intensive construction work as part of phase 2” of the project, according to a College Township news release.

A detour will direct traffic to Mount Nittany Road, Berry Street and Dale Street during the temporary closure. Access to Schrek Alley and driveways will remain open.

The existing one-way traffic pattern will be maintained on the open segments of Pike Street, allowing travel heading northeast from Elmwood Street toward East College Avenue. Traffic from College Avenue headed to points beyond Grove Circle is being detoured to Elmwood Street.

All work is weather dependent and the township reminded drivers to use caution and follow detour signs in the work zone

Phase two of the Pike Street project is expected to conclude in mid-October. It includes curbing, stormwater upgrades, delineated parallel parking, curb ramps and full sidewalk along both sides of Pike Street between Elmwood and Dale streets. Phase one, which was completed in 2021, included water and gas line relocations.

Bowman Excavating, Paving and Concrete of Bellefonte is the contractor on the $1.5 million project.`

A detour will be in effect for a portion of Pike Street in Lemont for two weeks beginning July 5.
