Students, Community Members Rally at State College Climate Strike

Hundreds of students and local community members joined together Friday afternoon to take part in the State College Climate Strike. Some skipped their classes or left work to take part in the event to advocate for the cause, joining fellow protesters in more than 150 countries demanding large-scale action to combat climate change.

The international climate strikes were the latest spurred by young people worldwide, inspired by 16-year-old Swedish climate change activist Greta Thunberg. The strikes come three days before the start of the United Nations Climate Action Summit in New York. 

The local strike, which had participants from across generations, began at about noon at the Allen Street Gates before moving to the front of Penn State’s Old Main.
