STATE COLLEGE — The Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts recently announced $1,900 in awards for ‘Images 2018,’ the festival’s annual juried exhibition of fine art. Award decisions were made by the show’s juror, Erin M. Coe, director of the Palmer Museum of Art at Penn State.

“For ‘Images 2018,’ I applied the same standards to jurying this show as I have to other exhibitions I’ve adjudicated in the past,” said Coe. “My criteria include a combination of the following: works that demonstrate dexterity with the medium employed, excellence in design and composition, and the subject of the artwork, which I carefully consider — what does it represent and how is it conveyed?”
Coe selected 36 pieces from the 264 pieces submitted from across Pennsylvania.

Best in Show was awarded to Marisa Eichman, of Pine Grove Mills, for her oil painting ‘The Hunt for the Red Doe.’

The William D. Davis Award was awarded to Todd Krout, of Lemont, for his watercolor, ‘Urban Sprawl.’ The Davis Award is sponsored by the Sturtz-Davis family in William’s memory.

The Central Pennsylvania Pastel Society sponsored the award for Best Pastel, which was presented to Kathleen Muffie-Witt, of State College, for her pastel, ‘Ladies in a Row.’

The following works were chosen as Award of Merit winners:

■ ‘Can Never Be,’ Abbey Rosko, of New Tripoli

■ ‘Kora-ju 23,’ Will Wadlington, of Warriors Mark

■ ‘Boxing,’ Gloria Plosky Scaltz, of Howard

■ ‘Unchartered,’ Michele Randall, of State College

The awards of merit were sponsored by State College Framing Company and Gallery, The Queen Victorian Bed & Breakfast and Garbrick Shadle Insurance Agency.

The Schlow Library Foundation sponsored an honorable mention, which was presented to Susan Parsonage, of State College, for ‘Beyond.’

In addition to the juror’s prize decisions, the Viewers’ Choice Award, sponsored by Joyce Robinson and Norman Spivey, will be chosen by ballots cast by exhibition visitors.
