CVS is closing one of its State College pharmacy locations in February.

The CVS Pharmacy located inside Target at 201 W. Beaver Ave. will close on Feb. 20, according to Amy Thibault, lead director of external communications for CVS Health.

Prescriptions will be transferred to the CVS store at 116 W. College Ave. prior to closing. Affected employees “will be offered comparable roles within the company,” Thibault said.

No other CVS closures are planned in the State College area, she added. The company also has a pharmacy inside the Target at 315 Colonnade Boulevard, as well as stores at 1630 S. Atherton St., 1101 N. Atherton St. and 116 W. College Ave. in State College and 127 S. Potter St. in Bellefonte.

CVS announced earlier in January that it planned to shutter dozens of pharmacies located inside Target stores.

“The closures are part of our plan to realign our national retail footprint and reduce store and pharmacy density and are based on our evaluation of changes in population, consumer buying patterns and future health needs to ensure we have the right pharmacy format in the right locations for patients,” Thibault wrote in an email.

It marks the third pharmacy in the State College area and fourth in Centre County to close in three months. In December, Rite Aid closed stores at 1927 S. Atherton St. and 510 Westerly Parkway in State College, as well as its Bellefonte store at 821 E. Bishop St. as part of a wave of shutdowns nationwide amid bankruptcy restructuring.
