A downtown State College donut shop has abruptly closed after eight years in business.
Duck Donuts’ location at 125 S. Fraser St. shut its doors on Sunday, according to a post on the Facebook page for the State College shop, which is now listed as “permanently closed.”
“After many wonderful years serving the State College area, our shop will close on Sunday, June 21,” the company wrote in a post on the same day. “We are incredibly grateful for the loyal guests, families, and community members who supported our shop. Thank you for your support, your visits, and your love for warm, delicious donuts.”
No reason for the closure was provided. Attempts to reach representatives for Duck Donuts and the franchise location owner on Sunday night and Monday morning were unsuccessful.
The shop, located in the Fraser Shops along the Martin Luther King Jr. Plaza, offered custom-made donuts with a wide variety of icings, toppings and drizzles, as well as featured and fan-favorite creations like Maple Bacon, Peanut Butter Paradise and Blueberry Pancake. The menu also included donut ice cream sundaes, donut-topped milkshakes, donut ice cream sandwiches, breakfast sandwiches and coffee drinks.
One of now more than 120 Duck Donuts locations worldwide, the State College store opened in March 2018 under a Danville-based franchisee. It was acquired in December 2020 by franchisee Lucky Ducks Treats LLC, owned by a partnership of three Blair County couples.
With the closure of the State College shop, the closest Duck Donuts location to Centre County is in Hershey.
