The first Centre County location for a chain of popular frozen custard shops has set an opening date.

The Meadows of Happy Valley will open on Monday, March 10, at 2934 Benner Pike, Bellefonte, according to the location’s Facebook page. The shop is behind Troy’s Philadelphia-Style Hoagies.

Hours will be 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily and the shop will offer dine-in, walk-up window and drive-thru service.

Founded in 1950 in Duncansville by the Meadows family, The Meadows Original Frozen Custard began franchising in 2000 and today has more than two dozen locations in six states, and even one in Australia. The original Meadows shop has become a tourist destination and has been featured on The Travel Channel.

Each location offers The Meadows’ original frozen custard recipe developed in 1950 in chocolate, vanilla and flavors of the day, served in cups, cones, sundaes and shakes, along with Italian ice, gelato and more. They also serve frozen yogurt in vanilla and a low-fat flavor of the day.

BeLinda and Seth Confer are owners of the Bellefonte location, and BeLinda Confer told StateCollege.com in August that bringing The Meadows Original Frozen Custard to Centre County was inspired by her family’s own experiences.

“Our main factor when deciding to open a Meadows Frozen Custard in Centre County was frequently looking for a place to take our family of seven to for ice cream,” BeLinda Confer said. “The Meadows of Happy Valley will provide a place for Centre County families to enjoy the same traditional frozen custard as the original Meadows, just closer to home.”
