Stuckey Automotive opened its Mitsubishi dealership on Tuesday at the former Centre Daily Times property in College Township.

The dealership, now known as Stuckey Mitsubishi Super Centre, relocated to the repurposed building at 3400 E. College Ave. from its previous spot at 150 Shiloh Road, which opened in 2020. The new location will serve as the Stuckey Automotive group’s Centre County hub.

“Today has been a long time coming,” Matt Stuckey, president of Stuckey Automotive, said in a statement. “We began our search for what would be Stuckey Mitsubishi’s permanent location over two years ago. By happenstance the Centre Daily Times was making plans to move their operations right around the same time.  When we first toured the building, we could visualize a layout that bears a striking resemblance to what stands today.  We knew we were home.”

Stuckey purchased the 40,000-square-foot building from the CDT’s parent company, McClatchy, for $1.95 million in August 2021, according to county records, and began overhauling it for its sales and service operations in March 2022. The CDT had operated from the building since 1973.

The facility now includes a large showroom, conference rooms, employee areas and a service center with 13 two-post vehicle lifts, an alignment lift and on-site car wash.

“I’m most proud of our team and the hundreds of talented men and women who accepted the magnitude of this project, knowing full well the highs and lows,” Matt Stuckey said. “In many ways, this building signifies our commitment to Centre County.  We wanted the name of our dealership to evoke that same feeling of fortitude and staying power and so we thought it opportune to rename the dealership the Stuckey Mitsubishi Super Centre.”

The dealership currently employs 20 full-time sales and service professionals, and the large space means Stuckey can recruit a larger team, Samantha Longenecker, human resources director, said.

“We’re working with local career and technology schools to connect with students looking to develop their craft right here in State College,” Longenecker said.

Stuckey Mitsubishi’s service center is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.  The sales center, which features new and used Mitsubishi models and preowned vehicles, is open weekdays, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. Saturday.

Duncansville-based Stuckey Automotive operates five dealerships in Blair and Centre counties. In addition to Stuckey Mitsubishi, its other Centre County location is Stuckey Ford of Bellefonte, 2892 Benner Pike, which the company acquired from Joel Confer Ford in 2021.
