A new community event venue is expected to open in Centre County this spring.
Based in Port Matilda, Stoneybottom Celebration Venue is currently accepting bookings for events in 2023 and 2024. The event hall, located at 1979 Reese Hollow Road off Route 322, can accommodate approximately 200 guests.
According to its advertisements, Stoneybottom Celebration Venue is open to hosting a wide variety of events, including weddings, reunions, birthday celebrations, flea markets and more.
The 2,400-square-foot event space is ADA-accessible and boasts a commercial kitchen, as well as heating and air conditioning. The 3.75-acre property it sits on also features outdoor porches and a picnic pavilion, on-site parking, landscaped lawns and a spring-fed pond.
Stoneybottom Celebration Venue occupies the same property as the former Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 51, which accommodates members in the Bald Eagle region. The police group’s local chapter will continue using the lodge for its monthly meetings and annual picnics, said owner James R. Lohr Sr., a lifelong FOP member. Lohr, alongside his family, purchased the property in September.
Locals might recognize Lohr for his former auto services company, which once operated out of a shop on North Atherton Street before he retired in 2020. After nearly 40 years of self-employment, Lohr hopes his newly launched event venue will continue his efforts to serve Centre County.
“I see great business and opportunity in the venue, and as a life member of the Fraternal Order of Police, I want to help serve the community,” Lohr said.
