Penn State Creamery Ice Cream Reaches Sweet 16 of ‘Coolest Thing Made in PA’ Contest

Penn State’s Berkey Creamery is putting the “sweet” in Sweet 16.

The university’s popular ice cream has reached the round of 16 for the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry’s second annual “Coolest Thing Made in PA” contest. The creamery will face off against Yuengling Lager when third-round voting takes place Tuesday, April 2, and Wednesday, April 3.

Votes can be cast on the Chamber’s X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram accounts.

A year after the Primanti Bros. sandwich won the Chamber’s inaugural 32-item tournament, the 2024 bracket features 64 made-in-PA products competing for votes.

The Creamery bested Lycoming piston aircraft engines with 75% of the vote on X in round one and handled Gilson Snowboards in round 2 with 81.6% of X votes. Yuengling, meanwhile, outlasted Zimmerman Shoes in the first round and cruised past Great Coasters in round two.

The winner will face the top vote-getter from the other round of 16 matchup in The ‘T’ region between a pair of Pa. heavyweights: Mrs. T. Pierogies and the Sheetz MTO.

Quarterfinal voting will take place on Thursday, April 4, and Friday, April 5. The semifinals are scheduled for April 8-9 and the championship will be April 10-11.
