State College’s only Pizza Hut is moving down the street.
After closing up its longtime space at 760 S. Atherton St. on Monday, the restaurant will reopen on Oct. 10 in the Hills Plaza, according to franchisee ARC Restaurants. It will be located at 2141 S. Atherton St., next to Jersey Mike’s.
The former location had been a Pizza Hut since 1970 and was one of the national pizzeria chain’s first 10 restaurants in Pennsylvania, ARC Restaurants marketing manager Amanda Risser said.
ARC Restaurants’ current lease on the longtime location was nearing an end, which “provided the opportunity to relocate in a delivery and carryout focused operation,” Risser said. It will not offer dine-in service. Along with Pizza Hut’s team of delivery drivers, Door Dash will be added to the business. The restaurant, which will be open seven days a week, also will have “all new state of the art equipment” and new computer system, according to Risser.
Pizza Huts nationwide have moved away from dining room service in recent years. The Pizza Hut in Bellefonte, also owned by ARC, moved from its previous home on East Bishop Street to a carryout- and delivery-only location at 372 Phoenix Avenue in 2021.
DuBois-based ARC Restaurants is in its 20th year as a Pizza Hut franchise and operates 10 locations in seven counties. In Centre County, in addition to the Bellefonte and State College locations, it also operates a Pizza Hut at 952 N. Front St. in Philipsburg.
