A popular bicycle company is planning to open its first Centre Region store.

A Trek Bicycle store is in the works for the Benner Pike Shops. A sign for the store was recently installed outside 321A Benner Pike, and Zamais Services, the real estate agency for the property, confirmed Trek’s plans in a Facebook post last month.

Trek’s website lists a store location for the College Township shop but no opening date. A phone number listed for the location did not accept calls.

According to the store page, it will offer Trek and Electra bikes, Bontrager gear, tune-ups and service.

Renovation bidding for the site was listed on Construction Journal in the spring and job listings for the location, including for store manager, have appeared online in the last two weeks.

The closest Trek-branded stores to State College are currently in the Pittsburgh area and Lancaster. Most of Trek’s Pennsylvania stores are open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. or 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Independent retailer Two Brothers Bicycle Company in Burnham is currently the nearest authorized Trek dealer.

A leading bicycle manufacturer and distributor, Waterloo, Wisconsin-based Trek was founded in 1976 and now sells its products through corporate-owned stores and independent dealers worldwide.
