I am writing on behalf of Mayoral Candidate Ron Madrid.

State College is constantly praised for its high quality of life, as illustrated by recent rankings such as second smartest city and the third best college town in the U.S.

But sustaining and advancing our quality of life require on-going hard work and collective decision-making by our community leaders. We face continual challenges to the borough’s revenues, resources, and government staff such as police. Borough leaders must move forward on critical issues and decisions to ensure our public services, public safety, and financial health. This requires a mayor who can listen to residents from every neighborhood and of all ages, build consensus and reach compromise, and efficiently lead discussions to conclusive decisions.

I have worked with Ron on various issues such as the Downtown Master Plan and various community and economic development initiatives through his leadership of the Holmes-Foster Neighborhood Association and the Planning Commission for several years. While we hold different viewpoints on some matters, I appreciate his understanding of the complex matters facing the borough, his patient consideration of all views, and his leadership in guiding debates and discussions to genuine compromise and effective decisions.

On Nov. 5, I urge Democrats, Republicans, Independents, and all borough residents to vote for Ron Madrid for mayor.
