The Centre County Library and Historical Museum is now accepting submissions for its 39th annual Young Author & Illustrator Contest.

Entry is open until April 1 for all Centre County children in grades 1 through 6, including public, charter, private and home school students. See centrecountylibrary.org/youngauthor for procedures to submit entries.

Held every year since 1985, the contest draws more than 100 entries annually, giving the next generation of storytellers an opportunity to express their creativity.

Entries can be composed of only pictures, only writing or both. Young storytellers can work alone or with another child in the same grade to write and illustrate a story. Community leaders and library staff will judge stories by grade level.

First-, second- and third-place winners will be selected from each grade along with two honorable mentions. First-place winners will have their stories published as hardbound books and added to the library’s collection.

All placing stories are eligible to be purchased as a hardbound book for $22 per book.

Winners will also have their stories celebrated in late April during the Young Author and Illustrator award ceremony, which will include a presentation from a guest author and a live reading of excerpts from their winning stories.
