ClearWater Conservancy invites everyone to step outside this May to relax and admire the wonders of the region’s nearby nature through Centred Outdoors‘ season preview events.
On Sunday, May 8, take a hike with Mother Nature on Mother’s Day along the Spring Creek Canyon, Fisherman’s Paradise entrance. Terry Melton, ClearWater board member and native plant enthusiast and expert, will guide visitors along the way as they stop to admire the multitudes of flowering plants along the trail. Many early-blooming species can be found along the hike and participants will have the opportunity to learn how to identify both native and invasive species.
Hikes will leave from the parking area at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Arrive a few minutes early with a water bottle and comfortable shoes. For GPS, use the following address: Spring Creek Canyon Trail, Bellefonte, PA 16823 [map].
Then on Sunday, May 22, explore the family-friendly trails at Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center. Guides from Shaver’s Creek will lead the way as visitors explore the natural area surrounding the center. Participants will look for, learn about and discuss wildflowers, birds, insects, reptiles and amphibians in the forest and fields.
Everyone will also have the option to walk through the Klingsberg Aviary before or after the walk. This adventure will cover approximately 1 mile on forested paths, so come prepared with sturdy footwear and a full water bottle.
Hikes will leave from the center at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. For GPS, use the following address: 3400 Discovery Road, Petersburg.
Both events are free and open to the public.
The full schedule and complete details for all 2022 Centred Outdoors events will be released later this month.
