Three area fire departments and the Centre County Animal Response Team worked together on Tuesday night to rescue a horse that fell down an embankment on a farm near State College.

Alpha Fire Company and the CART were dispatched at about 7:50 p.m. to the 800 block of West Branch Road in College Township, where the horse slipped down a muddy hill and became entangled on its side in fencing, according to a post on the Alpha Facebook page. County dispatch reported that the horse was “precariously perched” and in danger of falling further.

Crews worked to keep the horse calm as they attempted to disentangle her from the fencing, and the Miles Township and Millheim fire companies were called to the scene with large animal rescue trained personnel.

After securing and strapping the horse and building multiple haul systems, crews lifted her to the top of the hill, according to Alpha.

They then moved the horse down the path and helped her to her feet. The horse was then able to walk to the barn under her own power.
