The weekly Downtown State College Friday Farmers Market is back for the season and starting this week live music will be part of the experience once every month.
Sponsored by the Downtown State College Improvement District, “Market Jam” will feature live music on the 100 block of Locust Lane from noon to 2 p.m. on the first Friday of each month through September.
The Friday Farmers Market takes place 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. every Friday from May through November on Locust Lane between East College and East Beaver avenues.
Market Jam will be part of DSCID’s monthly First Friday celebration showcasing music, art, shopping and food throughout the downtown.
This month’s Market Jam will feature State College band Canary. DSCID staff also will be on hand to distribute parking validations to downtown patrons, with passes accepted at Pugh, Fraser and Beaver garages.

“We are passionate about supporting our local farmers and enhancing the downtown market experience,” DSCID Executive Director Lee Anne Jeffries said in a news release. “We encourage the community to come downtown, grab lunch, enjoy some live music and shop the market.”
Other First Friday activities include live music from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Jr. Plaza on South Fraser Street, free family movies in Sidney Friedman Park at dusk and other events around the downtown. See this month’s full First Friday lineup on the DSCID website.
