Mount Nittany Health will host a Hunter Safety Day in honor of its former emergency medical services manager Rich Kelley, an avid outdoorsman who died unexpectedly earlier this year.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, at Mount Nittany Health Toftrees, the new outpatient facility at Toftrees West.
Free and open to the public, the day is focused on promoting responsible and safe hunting practices and will feature a range of activities aimed at ensuring safe hunting trips, according to a news release.
Representatives from Mount Nittany Health Emergency Medical Services and Professional and Organizational Development will teach techniques and share other resources with attendees.
Community groups committed to safety and education are invited to participate, and Mount Nittany Health is offering free booth space and educational session or demonstration space.
Organizations interested in attending should visit Mount Nittany Health community health events website and fill out the form by Aug. 15.
Kelley, who died in February at the age of 56, was a leader in the Centre County emergency services community. In addition to his work as a paramedic and EMS supervisor for multiple agencies during his career, he was also a volunteer firefighter who served as an assistant chief with Undine Fire Company in Bellefonte and a line officer for the Howard Fire Company.
In his free time, Kelley loved all things outdoors, including camping trips with his family and hunting, according to his obituary.
