‘Music in the Gardens’ Brings Free Outdoor Concert to Arboretum at Penn State

The Arboretum at Penn State will turn into an outdoor concert venue Thursday evening as the Penn State Symphonic Wind Ensemble performs a free show surrounded by the scenery of the gardens.

The university’s School of Music will host “Music in the Gardens” at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10 at The Arboretum. No tickets or registration are required for the concert.

The Symphonic Wind Ensemble will perform under the direction of Tonya Mitchell-Spradlin, director of Wind Band Studies. The program will feature a variety of music during the hourlong concert.

The event will begin earlier in the afternoon, with food trucks opening at 4 p.m. on-site. Visitors can also explore an “instrument petting zoo” in the Children’s Garden and hear performances from State College Music Academy students at locations throughout the grounds.

Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and are welcomed to spend the evening enjoying the gardens before and during the concert. 

The event is presented by Penn State’s School of Music in the College of Arts and Architecture in partnership with The Arboretum at Penn State.

“Music in the Gardens” is free and open to the public. The rain date is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 13.
