The Pennsylvania Chamber Orchestra will perform its “British Landscapes” concert on Sunday, Jan. 26, at 3 p.m. in Penn State Recital Hall, Music Building 1. The performance will be “a journey to the shores of England,” according to a press release from the PCO.
Suzuki students from The Music Academy, a program which aims to “foster collaboration between teachers, provide rich and varied musical opportunities for students and develop a sense of Suzuki community in the State College Area,” according to its website, will perform in British Landscapes.
“Please join us in highlighting these young music students in our community,” the press release stated.
The performance will include Mendelssohn’s “Hebrides Overture” and Rebecca Clarke’s “Viola Sonata,” which will feature violist Timothy Deighton.
Deighton teaches viola at Penn State University. He has collaborated with the American String Quartet and the New Zealand String Quartet, performs with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and has a solo album “Viola Aotearoa.”
“Having long held a fascination for new music, he has performed premieres of more than fifty works for viola, most of which were commissioned by or written for him,” according to his bio.
Tickets for the performance range between $10 and $30 and can be purchased prior to the performance or at the door. For tickets and livestream information, visit pachamberorchestra.org.
