PETERSBURG – Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center is celebrating its storied past and bright future with a 50th Anniversary Celebration on May 23. The free, public event is an opportunity for the local and Penn State communities to reminisce, relive and reconnect to all things Shaver’s Creek as it celebrates 50 years of inspiring discovery.

To be held from noon to 9 p.m., the celebration includes nature walks, ice cream, a campfire and more. Registration is required and will be open until the day of the event or until capacity is reached. Visit the 50th Anniversary Celebration registration webpage to register.

Food vendors will be on site for snack and lunch options from noon till 4 p.m.

Later in the evening, an ice cream social will feature Penn State Berkey Creamery’s special offering of Shaver’s Creek Bittersweet Mint. The flavor takeover to commemorate the center’s anniversary is also available at the Creamery until October.

Throughout the day, there will be yard games and places to connect on the front lawn, live music in the amphitheater, wildlife programing, guided hikes and other activities on the grounds at various times.

The 50th Anniversary Celebration is part of a yearlong series of events in honor of half a century of discovery at Shaver’s Creek.
