State College to Host Black History Month Celebration

State College Borough’s commemoration of Black History Month will culminate with a celebration on Friday night at 3 Dots Downtown, 137 E. Beaver Ave.

The event, which is free and open to all community members, will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. and will include live music from local performers and light refreshments.

“We are thrilled to be celebrating Black History Month in State College,” Chiluvya Zulu, the borough’s director of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging, said in a news release. “This is an opportunity for us to come together as a community and recognize the incredible accomplishments and contributions that Black people have made throughout the history of the United States.”

The borough has been commemorating Black History Month, which has a nationwide theme of “Celebrating Black Resistance,” throughout February. Mayor Ezra Nanes proclaimed Black History Month in State College, and a poster display in the Municipal Building lobby highlights historical Black figures who have had an impact on a variety of sectors but are often less known.

Those posters also will be on display at 3 Dots during the celebration.
