Strawberry Festival, Outdoor Concerts, Pride and More on Tap This Weekend

It’s another busy early summer weekend in Centre County, with a festival, fair, outdoor concerts, State College Pride, Spikes baseball fun and more.

Here’s a look at the highlights.

State College Pride 2022

State College Pride is back for its second year with a series of events celebrating the LGBTQ community and a diverse and welcoming Centre Region. sponsored by the Centre LGBTQA Support Network and the Borough of State College, highlights of the celebration are Pride Fun Day from 4 to 9 p.m. on Friday at Tussey Mountain and a parade starting at State College Area High School at 3 p.m. on Saturday followed by a festival in Sidney Friedman Park from 5 to 8 p.m. See the full schedule at statecollegepride.com.

Village Green Concert
7:30-9 p.m. Friday
Lemont Village Green, 133 Mount Nittany Road, Lemont

The Lemont Village Association continues its annual summer music series with a performance by acoustic trio The Extra Miles. Savory Station food truck also will be on hand. Concerts are free but donations for renovations to the Granary are welcomed.

Summer Reading Kickoff Party
10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday
Schlow Centre Region Library Children’s Department, 211 S. Allen St., State College

Celebrate the start of Summer Reading at Schlow with a special balloon creation from Nittany Balloons and activities from WPSU.

A Village Fair
1-5 p.m., Saturday
Ten Thousand Villages State College, 1341 S. Atherton St., State College

The first of Ten Thousand Villages’ Summer Village Fair series will feature local art, food and music outdoors in the plaza, in addition to the international fair trade items inside the store. Musical guest Eric Ian Farmer will perform from 3-5 and food will be available all afternoon from Taproot Kitchen and Sweet Temptations desserts. Featured local artists include AMRitter Artistries, Black Market jewelry and Leah Renee Lumeya.

Lemont Strawberry Festival
3-7 p.m., Saturday
Lemont Village Green, 133 Mount Nittany Road, Lemont

Now in its 40th year, the Lemont Strawberry Festival will feature fresh strawberries from Kurtz Farm in Belleville, homemade cakes, Meyer Dairy ice cream and lemonade. Art Alliance artist volunteers will offer art projects for kids and “speeder” rides ($6 age 16 and up/$3 age 5 to 15) will be available from the Bellefonte Historical Railroad Society. Sonic Schroeder — playing an eclectic blend of rock, blues, jazz and folk music — will perform from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Admission is $8 for ages 13 and up and $3 for children ages 5 to 12.

RothROCK Festival
5 p.m., Saturday
Tussey Mountain, 301 Bear Meadows Road, Boalsburg

Tussey Mountain hosts an evening of rock music featuring “the ultimate Ozzy Osbourne experience,” The Land of Ozz, and opening band Quarterstick. Food and beverage will be available for purchase on site. Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the gate.

Spikes vs. Crosscutters
6:35 p.m., Saturday
Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, University Park

Penn State quarterback Sean Clifford will make a special appearance when the State College Spikes return home to face the Williamsport Crosscutters. The night also will feature a Salute to the Outdoors, Kids Run the Bases and a postgame fireworks show.

Free Movie in the Park
7:30 p.m., Saturday
Talleyrand Park, 320 W. High St., Bellefonte

Free summer movies return to Bellefonte with a screening of Disney’s “Encanto.” Free popcorn will be available along with snacks for sale. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs and flashlights. Movie begins at dusk and will be postponed in the event of inclement weather. Children 12 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

Penn’s Woods Music Festival
7 p.m., Saturday
Arboretum at Penn State, University Park

Penn’s Woods Music Festival kicks off its summer lineup with the festival orchestra performing well-known pieces by Rossini, Vivaldi, Mozart, Copland, Bartok and more on the Event Lawn of the H.O. Smith Botanic Gardens. Concertgoers are encouraged to arrive early, place their chairs or blankets and then explore the gardens. Free admission and free parking next in the Katz Building lot. Centred Outdoors at Poe Paddy Tunnel
1 p.m. and 3 p.m., Sunday
Poe Paddy State Park, Tunnel Spur Road, Woodward

Centred Outdoors offers a guided adventure with a scenic walk along the Mid State Trail and through the Poe Paddy Tunnel at Poe Paddy State Park. The 1.5-mile hike will be led Jim Flanagan Penns Valley Conservation Association environmental educator. The Penns Creek Chapter of Trout Unlimited also will be stationed streamside to provide fly-fishing demonstrations, instructions and answer questions. The hike and activities will be offered again at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

Summer Music Picnic Series
4-7:30 p.m., Sunday
South Hills School of Business and Technology North Lawn, 480 Waupelani Drive, State College

South Hills’ Summer Music Picnic Series continues with Triple A Blues Band performing at 6 p.m. Grounds open at 4 p.m. for picnicking, with Brazilian Munchies food truck on site.

Summer Sounds from the Gazebo
7-8 p.m., Sunday
Talleyrand Park, 320 W. High St., Bellefonte

A staple of summers in Bellefonte for 40 years, the annual free concert series continues with Ted and Molly performing a mix of music from the 1960s through the ’90s. Lawn chairs or blankets are suggested.
