BELLEFONTE — The summer of 2022 looks to be hopping in Bellefonte as the borough council approved some of the Victorian town’s biggest summer events during a meeting on Monday.

Like always, festival season will kick off in town during Father’s Day weekend as the Historic Bellefonte Cruise comes roaring back into town June 17 and 18. The Cruise has been a Bellefonte staple event since 1988. The event returned in 2021 after sitting out 2020 because of COVID-19 restrictions.

The event brings patrons back to the days when cruising the street of Bellefonte was the thing to do and has grown to include a Friday night sock hop, music, food and more.

The Central Pennsylvania Tasting Trail was given permission to hold its annual the following weekend Summer Craft Beverage Expo at Talleyrand Park on June 26. The fifth annual event features local craft beverage producers, along with food and music.

Also at Talleyrand Park, the Bellefonte Woman’s Club will again hold its “Free Movies in the Park” events this summer. Council approved the club’s request for movies to run June 11 and 25, July 9 and 23 and Aug. 6. Because the event is not for profit, council waived fees associated with renting the park for the groups.

Downtown Bellefonte Inc. was also given approval to host its Garden Party fundraiser event at Talleyrand Park on May 15.

This story appears in the March 10-16, 2022 edition of the Centre County Gazette.
