Both of the State College area’s multiplex movie theaters will be open as of this weekend.
UEC 12, 125 Premiere Drive in College Township, will open on Friday, according to UEC Theatres. It joins UEC College 9, 3031 Carnegie Drive in Patton Township, which reopened in March.
The local theater is one of five UEC theaters reopening on Friday.
“Our employees and General Managers are more than excited to bring entertainment and some fun back to the communities we serve,” Mike Ross, president and CEO of United Entertainment Corp. said in a release. “Movie fans have been overwhelmingly supportive. They want to go to the movies again.”
Both theaters closed last March at the beginning of the pandemic and reopened in August. But they temporarily shut down again in December when Gov. Tom Wolf’s administration ordered indoor entertainment facilities to close for three weeks as part of a series of temporary COVID-19 mitigation measures.
Both theaters will be open Fridays through Sundays and on Tuesdays, which are “Bargain Tuesdays” with all tickets $5.50.
UEC 12 will be featuring “Godzilla vs. Kong,” “Here Today,” “Mortal Kombat,” “Nobody,” “Scoob!,” “The Unholy,” and “Tom and Jerry.”
“A Quiet Place II,” and “Cruella,” will open at the theater next weekend.

Regional manager Anthony Smith said in March that College 9 opened first partly because it underwent a remodeling prior to the pandemic, including new seating in each of the auditoriums and recliner seating in the four largest. A similar remodel is planned for UEC 12, but was delayed by the pandemic.
