STATE COLLEGE — The State Theatre is hosting its second annual Women’s Voices festival featuring several female singers and songwriters from the Centre County area on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m.

Natascha Hoffmeyer, host of the evening, said, “I am very excited at the prospects of having all these women together again to share their many talents. There are two new acts this year to add even more interest.”

The groups to perform Sept. 28 include some who already enjoy a large fan following. They include: Pure Cane Sugar, Jackie Brown & The Gill Street Band, Anchor & Arrow, Kristi Jean & Her Ne’er-Do-Wells and Natascha & The Spy Boys. Melanie Morrison Ziegler will also be there to present her new project, Miss Melanie’s The Double Something.

Hoffmeyer, of Natascha and The Spy Boys, said, “There is something for everyone in the variety of music to be offered: Americana, jazz, swing, blues, soul, pop, rockabilly and more.”

Jazz Kat is a new music duo from State College who will be appearing in this venue for the first time. They show off their talents in rock, soul, country, blues, folk and jazz. They have appeared at the Farmhouse Eatery, Bellefonte, and at 3 Dots in State College.

Another of the newcomers this year to Women’s Voices is the group The Lemon Drops. The Lemon Drops consists of Fiona Mulley and Isabelle Snyder.

Hoffmeyer said, “I saw them sing at an ‘80s bash and I was so impressed. They do some a cappella ‘30s and ‘40s music in a similar style to the Andrews Sisters.”

The evening celebrates Women’s Voices in Music and a portion of the ticket sales will benefit Centre Safe. Centre Safe provides help to women, men and children who have experienced sexual assault, stalking, dating or domestic violence. The number to call for anyone needing help is (814) 234-5050 or toll free at (877) 234-5050. Someone will answer seven days a week and 24 hours a day.

This show is sponsored by Poole Anderson Construction. The company was formed in 1999 by the merger of L.C. Anderson & Sons and S&A Commercial Construction. Together they have worked to solve the construction challenges of their clients with experience and innovation.
