St. Mark Lutheran Church, 850 Snydertown Road, Howard, will host a youth mental health workshop with Jana Marie Foundation at 6 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 12.
The free youth mental health workshop is for adults — such as parents, grandparents, guardians and teachers — who wish to learn more about how to support children’s mental health as they prepare to head back to school. Jana Marie Foundation members will discuss available mental health resources for young people, free after-school programs offered by the foundation and other helpful strategies to care for the mental health of the young people in your life.
Jana Marie Foundation, a State College-based nonprofit organization, works to provide tools for individuals and communities to prevent suicide, and also help bring the issues of mental wellness and health to the forefront. The foundation formed in 2012 and is dedicated to Jana Marie Vicere, who in 2011 lost her battle to depression and died by suicide at the age of 30. She spent much of her life helping others and loved creative expression and the arts.
