Centre County Adds 1 COVID-19 Death, 26 Cases; Pennsylvania Reports 4,255 New Positives

Centre County registered one new COVID-19 death and 26 more cases of the virus on Monday, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

The death is the county’s 276th attributed to the virus since the start of the pandemic and 18th reported this month.

With the new positives, Centre County’s case count has had 24,566 total cases (22,112 confirmed and 2,454 probable). The county also had 17 new negative test results to bring the total 86,130.

Pennsylvania added 4,255 cases, bringing the commonwealth’s total to 1,894,514. Statewide, there were 4,900 new negatives for a total of 6,028,077.

With 20 new COVID-19 deaths identified by the Pennsylvania death registry, the statewide total is now 35,418.

Hospitalizations

Mount Nittany Medical Center has 55 COVID-19 inpatients, unchanged from Sunday, with with seven in intensive care [+2] and five on ventilators [+1].

The patients range in age from 20 to 95, according to Mount Nittany’s COVID-19 inpatient dashboard. Twelve are fully vaccinated and 43, about 78%, are not vaccinated.

Pennsylvania has 4,527 COVID-19 inpatients with 933 in intensive care and 571 on ventilators. Statewide data on the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard is unchanged from Sunday.

An estimated 90% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, according to a DOH calculation that considers a case as recovered if it has not been reported as a death and it is more than 30 days past the date of the first positive test or onset of symptoms.

Prison cases

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, Benner state prison has 15 active COVID-19 cases among inmates and 23 among staff.

Rockview state prison has five active inmate cases and 17 among staff.

Both facilities are in Benner Township.

At Benner, 1,528 inmates are fully vaccinated, nine are partially vaccinated and 195 are not vaccinated. Among staff, 293 are fully vaccinated and 335 are not vaccinated.

Rockview has 1,687 inmates who are fully vaccinated and 63 who are not vaccinated. Among staff, 340 are fully vaccinated and 377 are not vaccinated.

Transmission level

All 67 counties in Pennsylvania are at the highest level for community transmission of COVID-19 on the Centers for Disease Control scale, according to the latest county-level data update.

Transmission levels are based on positivity rate and cases per 100,000 people for the previous seven days. At the substantial and high levels, CDC guidance recommends all people, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks in public indoor settings.

Vaccinations

As of Monday morning, 90,304 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated, an increase of 41 since Sunday, and 11,663 are partially covered [+66]. Booster doses have been administered to 32,920 county residents [+147].

Among the county’s entire population, 71.1% have received at least one dose and 55.1% are fully vaccinated, according to the CDC. Among adult residents, 77.5% have received at least one dose and 59.6% are fully vaccinated.

Statewide, 70.9% of adults and 60.8% of the total population are fully vaccinated.

Vaccination appointments through Centre Volunteers in Medicine, Mount Nittany Health and through other pharmacies and providers listed at vaccines.gov.

All individuals age 16 and older are now eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot.
