Centre County registered one new COVID-19 death and 47 more cases of the virus on Monday, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
The death is the county’s 255th attributed to COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic and 11th reported this month.
The new cases bring the county’s total to 22,235 (20,027 confirmed and 2,208 probable). Centre County also had 63 new negative test results, bringing its total of 84,217.
Pennsylvania added 5,604 positives to bring the statewide total to 1,691,773. Statewide, there were 6,343 negatives for a total of 5,863,946.
With seven new COVID-19 deaths identified by the Pennsylvania death registry, the statewide total is now 32,931.
Hospitalizations
Mount Nittany Medical Center is treating 34 COVID-19 patients, one more than on Sunday, with four in intensive care [+1] and four on ventilators [+1].
The patients range in age from 47 to 86, according to Mount Nittany’s COVID-19 inpatient dashboard. Twelve are fully vaccinated and 24 are not vaccinated.
Pennsylvania has 3,174 COVID-19 inpatients, 77 more than on Sunday, with 751 in intensive care [+17] and 403 on ventilators [+8], according to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard. The statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations are the most since Feb. 3.
An estimated 92% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, according to a DOH calculation that considers a case as recovered if it has not been reported as a death and it is more than 30 days past the date of the first positive test or onset of symptoms.
Prison cases
According to the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, Benner state prison has 75 active COVID-19 cases among inmates — three times more than the second highest state correctional facility — and 16 among staff. Rockview state prison has three active inmate cases and four among staff. Both facilities are in Benner Township.
At Benner, 1,574 inmates are fully vaccinated, 14 are partially vaccinated and 198 are not vaccinated. Among staff, 277 are fully vaccinated and 351 are not vaccinated.
Rockview has 1,660 inmates who are fully vaccinated and 61 who are not vaccinated. Among staff, 325 are fully vaccinated and 392 are not vaccinated.
Transmission level
All 67 counties in Pennsylvania are at the highest level for community transmission of COVID-19 on the Centers for Disease Control scale, according to the latest county-level data update on Sunday.
Transmission levels are based on positivity rate and cases per 100,000 people for the previous seven days. At the substantial and high levels, CDC guidance recommends all people, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks in public indoor settings.
Vaccinations
As of Monday morning morning, 86,187 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated [+22 since Sunday] and 10,908 are partially covered [+187]. Third doses have been administered to 20,282 county residents [+200].
Among the county’s entire population, 71.1% have received at least one dose and 55.9% are fully vaccinated, according to the CDC. Among adult residents, 77.8% have received at least one dose and 62.2% are fully vaccinated.
Statewide, 73.6% of adults and 62% of the total population are fully vaccinated. Pennsylvania is fifth in the nation for total doses administered, according the CDC.
Vaccination appointments through Centre Volunteers in Medicine, Mount Nittany Health and through other pharmacies and providers listed at vaccines.gov.
All adults are now eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot.
