Centre County Adds 1 COVID-19 Death, 98 Cases; Pennsylvania Reports 7,358 New Positives

Centre County registered one new COVID-19 death and 98 more cases of the virus on Thursday, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

The death is the county’s 272nd attributed to the virus since the start of the pandemic and 14th reported this month.

With the new positives, the county’s case total stands at 24,213 (21,806 confirmed and 2,407 probable). The county also had 74 new negative test results to bring the total to 85,695.

Pennsylvania reported 7,358 new cases to increase the commonwealth’s total to 1,865,237. There were 6,324 new negatives statewide for a total of 6,002,313.

With 105 new COVID-19 deaths identified by the Pennsylvania death registry, the statewide total is now 35,095.

Hospitalizations

Mount Nittany Medical Center has 61 COVID-19 inpatients, six fewer than on Wednesday, with nine in intensive care and six on ventilators [-2].

The patients range in age from 22 to 95, according to Mount Nittany’s COVID inpatient dashboard. Sixteen are fully vaccinated and 45 are not vaccinated.

Pennsylvania has 4,657 COVID-19 inpatients, nine more than on Wednesday, with 967 in intensive care [+20] and 577 on ventilators [+24], according to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard.

An estimated 90% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, according to a DOH calculation that considers a case as recovered if it has not been reported as a death and it is more than 30 days past the date of the first positive test or onset of symptoms.

Prison cases

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, Benner state prison has 17 active COVID-19 cases among inmates, one fewer than on Wednesday, and 28 among staff.

Rockview state prison has seven active inmate cases [+2] and 18 among staff [-1]

Both facilities are in Benner Township.

At Benner, 1,541 inmates are fully vaccinated, nine are partially vaccinated and 196 are not vaccinated. Among staff, 290 are fully vaccinated [+2] and 338 are not vaccinated [-2].

Rockview has 1,683 inmates who are fully vaccinated and 62 who are not vaccinated. Among staff, 335 are fully vaccinated and 382 are not vaccinated.

Transmission level

All 67 counties in Pennsylvania are at the highest level for community transmission of COVID-19 on the Centers for Disease Control scale, according to the latest county-level data update.

Transmission levels are based on positivity rate and cases per 100,000 people for the previous seven days. At the substantial and high levels, CDC guidance recommends all people, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks in public indoor settings.

Vaccinations

As of Thursday morning, 89,979 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated, an increase of 84 since Wednesday, and 11,176 are partially covered [+68]. Booster doses have been administered to 30,340 county residents [+852].

Among the county’s entire population, 70.7% have received at least one dose and 54.8% are fully vaccinated, according to the CDC. Among adult residents, 77% have received at least one dose and 59.4% are fully vaccinated.

Statewide, 70.6% of adults and 60.5% of the total population are fully vaccinated.

All individuals age 16 and older are now eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot.
