Centre County reported 125 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday to bring its total to 11,110, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
Pennsylvania added 5,191 positives, bringing the statewide total to 839,239.
The county also had 234 additional negative test results, increasing its total to 56,707. Across Pennsylvania there were 12,762 new negatives for a total of 3,624,128.
Updated on Friday, Penn State’s COVID-19 dashboard shows 190 new positives — 173 students and 17 employees — resulting from testing at the University Park campus during the seven-day period of Jan. 22-28. Positive-results from campus-based testing are included in totals for Centre County as they are reported to the Department of Health.
The seven-day positivity rate from testing at University Park was 7.7%.
Centre County’s PCR testing positivity rate for the week of Jan. 22-28 was 8.9%, up from 6.4% the previous week, according to the health department’s updated early warning monitoring dashboard. The statewide positivity rate was 9.3%, down from 10.4%.
DOH reported no new deaths attributed to the virus among Centre County residents. To date, the county has had 193 COVID-19 deaths, according to health department data.
With 140 new COVID-19 deaths reported Friday, Pennsylvania’s total is now 21,602.
According to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard, which includes Mount Nittany Medical Center and rehabilitation hospitals, 29 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in Centre County, including one in intensive care and on a ventilator.
COVID hospitalizations at Mount Nittany trended downward throughout January. On Friday the medical center had 28 COVID-19 inpatients, less than half of the 58 it reported in its first update of the month on Jan. 4.
Through Friday, Mount Nittany admitted 203 COVID positive patients in January, with an average census of 42 COVID inpatients per day. In December it had 246 COVID admissions and an average daily census of 49 COVID inpatients.
Hospitalizations also continue to decline across Pennsylvania. Statewide, 3,551 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, including 724 in intensive care and 451 on ventilators.
Nursing and personal care homes in Centre County reported seven new COVID-19 cases among residents and one among staff. A total of 16 long-term care facilities in the county have had a combined 659 resident cases, 140 employee cases and 153 resident deaths.
An estimated 82% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, per a health department calculation.
Through Friday 8,800 people in Centre County have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, including 2,043 who have also received the required second dose, according to health department data. Statewide, 757,766 have received at least one dose, including 183,646 who are now fully covered.
Among Pennsylvania’s total cases, 730,182 are confirmed and 109,057 are probable. In Centre County, 10,276 are confirmed and 834 are probable.
