Centre County Adds 2 COVID-19 Deaths, 38 Positives; Pennsylvania Reports Smallest Case Increase in More Than 6 Months

Centre County registered two new COVID-19 deaths and 38 more cases of the virus on Sunday, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

The county now has had 335 deaths attributed to COVID-19, including 13 reported this month. The new cases bring the county’s total to 34,530 (30,685 confirmed and 3,845 probable).

Centre County’s seven-day moving average for new cases is 41, down from 54 a week ago and 84 two weeks ago.

Pennsylvania reported its smallest single-day increase in new cases since Aug. 2. The 1,393 new positives increase the statewide total to 2,744,145.

The commonwealth’s seven-day average is 2,763, down from 3,538 a week ago and 6,207 two weeks ago.

With 103 new COVID-19 deaths identified by the Pennsylvania death registry, the statewide total is now 42,789.

Hospitalizations

According to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard, 27 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in Centre County, one more than on Saturday, with none in intensive care or on ventilators for the seventh consecutive day.

Statewide, COVID-19 hospitalizations hit their lowest level since Sept. 2. According to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard, 1,921 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in Pennsylvania, 55 fewer than on Saturday, with 348 patients in intensive care [-25] and 217 on ventilators [-2].

Nursing and personal care home cases

Long-term care facilities in Centre County reported no new COVID-19 cases among residents or employees. A total of 20 nursing and personal care homes in the county have had a combined 773 resident cases, 746 employee cases and 182 resident deaths.

Prison cases

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, Benner state prison has 10 active COVID-19 cases among inmates and nine among staff.

Rockview state prison has one active inmate case and four among staff.

Both facilities are in Benner Township.

At Benner, 1,470 inmates are fully vaccinated, 18 are partially vaccinated and 188 are not vaccinated. Among staff, 314 are fully vaccinated and 314 are not vaccinated.

Rockview has 1,701 inmates who are fully vaccinated and 63 who are not vaccinated. Among staff, 349 are fully vaccinated and 368 are not vaccinated.

Vaccinations

DOH did not update vaccination data on Saturday or Sunday. As of Friday, 93,863 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated and 14,055 are partially covered. Booster doses have been administered to 48,266 county residents.

Among the county’s entire population, 69.2% have received at least one dose, 58.9% are fully vaccinated and 50.3% are fully vaccinated with a booster, according to the CDC. Among adult residents, 74.5% have received at least one dose, 63.1% are fully vaccinated and 52.9% have received a booster.

Statewide, 76.2% of adults and 66.7% of the total population are fully vaccinated.

Vaccination appointments are available through Centre Volunteers in MedicineMount Nittany Health and through other pharmacies and providers listed at vaccines.gov.

All individuals age 12 and older are now eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot.
