Centre County Adds 21 COVID-19 Cases; Pennsylvania Reports 10,506 New Positives

Centre County reported 21 new COVID-19 cases on Monday to increase its total to 25,384, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Among total cases 22,910 are confirmed and 2,474 are probable.

It was the county’s smallest single-day increase since Oct. 25, though testing in the county typically has been lower during holidays and weekends. In the last seven days, Centre County averaged 132 new positives a day.

The county had no additional negative test results reported on Monday to keep the total at 86,548.

Pennsylvania added 10,506 COVID-19 positives to bring the commonwealth’s total to 1,964,994. There were 2,338 new negatives statewide for a total of 6,061,861.

Deaths

DOH reported no new deaths attributed to the virus among Centre County residents, keeping the total at 283.

With 19 new COVID-19 deaths identified by the Pennsylvania death registry, the statewide total is now 36,069.

Hospitalizations

According to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard, 46 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in Centre County, a decrease of six since Sunday. Five are in intensive care [+1] and five are on ventilators [+1]

Pennsylvania has 4,509 COVID-19 inpatients, 150 more than on Sunday, with 912 in intensive care [+10] and 569 on ventilators [+18]. It marked the first increase in statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations in six days.

An estimated 89% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, according to a DOH calculation that considers a case as recovered if it has not been reported as a death and it is more than 30 days past the date of the first positive test or onset of symptoms.

Prison cases

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, Benner state prison has six active COVID-19 cases among inmates and 20 among staff.

Rockview state prison has 27 active inmate cases and seven among staff.

Both facilities are in Benner Township.

At Benner, 1,531 inmates are fully vaccinated, eight are partially vaccinated and 191 are not vaccinated. Among staff, 295 are fully vaccinated and 333 are not vaccinated.

Rockview has 1,684 inmates who are fully vaccinated and 64 who are not vaccinated. Among staff, 341 are fully vaccinated and 376 are not vaccinated.

Transmission level

All 67 counties in Pennsylvania are at the highest level for community transmission of COVID-19 on the Centers for Disease Control scale, according to the latest county-level data update.

Transmission levels are based on positivity rate and cases per 100,000 people for the previous seven days. At the substantial and high levels, CDC guidance recommends all people, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks in public indoor settings.

Vaccinations

As of Monday morning, 90,836 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated, an increase of 13 since Sunday, and 12,270 are partially covered [+10]. Booster doses have been administered to 35,119 county residents [+34].

Among the county’s entire population, 65.2% have received at least one dose and 56.7% are fully vaccinated, according to the CDC. Among adult residents, 70.5% have received at least one dose and 61.3% are fully vaccinated.

Statewide, 73.8% of adults and 63.5% of the total population are fully vaccinated.

All individuals age 16 and older are now eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot.
