Centre County added 22 COVID-19 cases on Thursday to bring its total to 17,351, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
Statewide, Pennsylvania registered its largest single-day increase in new positives since April 30. The 3,451 new cases reported on Thursday bring the commonwealth’s total to 1,259,775.
The county also reported 84 negative test results for a total of 74,427. Statewide, there were 8,032 new negatives for a total of 5,043,174.
Centre County remains at the substantial level for community transmission of COVID-19 — the second highest on the Centers for Disease Control scale — as of the CDC’s latest county-level data update on Wednesday afternoon. Neighboring Clinton and Clearfield counties are at the highest level, while Blair, Huntingdon, Mifflin and Union are also at substantial.
According to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard, nine COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in Centre County, three fewer than on Wednesday. Two are in intensive care and on ventilators.
Throughout the state, Pennsylvania has 1,307 COVID-19 inpatients, an increase of 32 since Wednesday, with 338 in intensive care [+6] and 160 on ventilators [+5]. COVID hospitalizations are at their highest level in three months.
DOH reported no new deaths attributed to the virus among Centre County residents, keeping the total at 230.
With 22 new COVID-19 deaths, Pennsylvania’s total is now 28,040.
An estimated 95% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, according to a DOH calculation.
As of Thursday morning, 79,429 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated and 6,163 are partially covered.
Vaccination appointments for ages 12 and older are available through Centre Volunteers in Medicine, Mount Nittany Health and through other pharmacies and providers listed at vaccines.gov.
