Centre County reported 24 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday to increase its total to 17,618, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Among total cases, 16,003 are confirmed and 1,615 are probable
Pennsylvania added 2,899 new positives to bring the statewide total to 1,294,730.
The county also reported 94 negative test results for a total of 75,289. Statewide, there were 8,444 new negatives for a total of 5,130,589.
Transmission Level
Centre County remains at the highest level for community transmission of COVID-19 on the Centers for Disease Control scale, according to the latest county-level data update on Sunday afternoon. The county had been at substantial, the second highest level, for three weeks until Friday.
Across Pennsylvania, 66 of 67 counties are at the high level, with only Snyder County at substantial.
Transmission levels are based on positivity rate and cases per 100,000 people for the previous seven days. At the substantial and high levels, CDC guidance recommends all people, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks in public indoor settings.
Deaths
DOH reported no new deaths attributed to the virus among Centre County residents on Sunday, keeping its total at 230 for the 10th consecutive day.
With five new COVID-19 deaths statewide, Pennsylvania’s total is now 28,213.
Hospitalizations
According to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard, 18 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in Centre County, with two in intensive care and two on ventilators — all unchanged from Saturday.
Pennsylvania has 1,768 COVID-19 inpatients, an increase of 19 since Saturday, with 476 in intensive care [-9] and 221 on ventilators [+14]. Hospitalizations are at their highest level since May 10.
Vaccinations
As of Sunday morning, 80,242 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated [+80 since Saturday] and 6,534 are partially covered [+12]. According to the CDC, 59.5% of the county’s entire population and 66.4% of adult residents have received at least one dose.
Statewide, 65.3% of Pennsylvania adults are fully vaccinated and the commonwealth ranks fifth nationally for total doses administered.
Vaccination appointments for ages 12 and older are available through Centre Volunteers in Medicine, Mount Nittany Health and through other pharmacies and providers listed at vaccines.gov.
