Centre County Adds 3 COVID-19 Deaths, 100 Cases; Pennsylvania Reports 11,206 New Positives

Centre County registered three new COVID-19 deaths and 100 more cases of the virus on Tuesday, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

The county now has 286 deaths attributed to COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, including 28 reported this month.

The new cases bring the county’s total to 25,484 (22,985 confirmed and 2,499 probable).

Pennsylvania reported 11,206 new positives to bring the commonwealth’s total to 1,976,200.

With 131 new COVID-19 deaths identified by the Pennsylvania death registry, the statewide total is now 36,200.

Hospitalizations

Mount Nittany Medical Center is treating 47 COVID-positive inpatients, one more than on Monday, with four in intensive care [-1] and three on ventilators [-2].

The patients range in age from 22 to 92, according to Mount Nittany’s COVID-19 inpatient dashboard. Nineteen are fully vaccinated and 28 are not vaccinated.

Pennsylvania has 4,648 COVID-19 inpatients, 139 more than on Monday, with 910 in intensive care [-2] and 586 on ventilators [+17].

An estimated 89% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, according to a DOH calculation that considers a case as recovered if it has not been reported as a death and it is more than 30 days past the date of the first positive test or onset of symptoms.

Prison cases

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, Benner state prison has tw0 active COVID-19 cases among inmates, four fewer than were listed on Monday, and 16 among staff [-4].

Rockview state prison has 29 active inmate cases [+2] and nine among staff [+2].

Both facilities are in Benner Township.

At Benner, 1,524 inmates are fully vaccinated, nine are partially vaccinated and 190 are not vaccinated. Among staff, 303 are fully vaccinated [+8] and 325 are not vaccinated [-8].

Rockview has 1,689 inmates who are fully vaccinated and 62 who are not vaccinated. Among staff, 341 are fully vaccinated and 376 are not vaccinated.

Transmission level

All 67 counties in Pennsylvania are at the highest level for community transmission of COVID-19 on the Centers for Disease Control scale, according to the latest county-level data update.

Transmission levels are based on positivity rate and cases per 100,000 people for the previous seven days. At the substantial and high levels, CDC guidance recommends all people, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks in public indoor settings.

Vaccinations

As of Tuesday morning, 90,909 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated, an increase of 73 since Monday, and 12,312 are partially covered [+42]. Booster doses have been administered to 35,325 county residents [+206].

Among the county’s entire population, 65.4% have received at least one dose and 56.8% are fully vaccinated, according to the CDC. Among adult residents, 70.7% have received at least one dose and 61.3% are fully vaccinated.

Statewide, 73.9% of adults and 63.6% of the total population are fully vaccinated.

All individuals age 16 and older are now eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot.
