Centre County Adds 4 COVID-19 Cases; Pennsylvania Reports 305 New Positives

Centre County registered four new COVID-19 cases on Monday as hospitalizations linked to the virus locally and statewide continued to remain low.

The new cases mark the fourth consecutive day with a single-digit increase and bring the county’s total to 35,105 (31,171 confirmed and 3,934 probable) since March 2020. Centre County’s seven-day moving average for new cases is 7.6, down from 8.4 a week ago and 19.9 a month ago.

Pennsylvania recorded fewer than 1,000 new positives for the 18th consecutive day. The 305 new cases bring the statewide total to 2,783,690.

The commonwealth’s seven-day average is 607, down from 613 a week ago and down from 1,064 a month ago.

Hospitalizations

Statewide, COVID-19 hospitalizations are at their lowest level since July 26. According to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard, 417 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in Pennsylvania, six fewer than on Sunday, with 70 in intensive care and 46 on ventilators [-1].

Deaths

DOH reported no new deaths attributed to the virus among Centre County residents for the sixth consecutive day, keeping the total at 346.

With two new COVID-19 deaths identified by the Pennsylvania death registry, the statewide total is now 44,316.

Community level

Centre County remains at the “low” community level for COVID-19 for the fourth consecutive week, according to the Centers for Disease Control’s latest update on Thursday.

Introduced on Feb. 25, community levels measure not only new cases, but also new hospitalizations and local hospital capacity to determine mitigation guidelines. At the low level, there is no recommendation for indoor masking.

Statewide, 64 of 67 counties are at the low level, with Bradford, Sullivan and Susquehanna at the medium level. At the medium level, the CDC recommends masks indoors in public for those at risk of severe illness. At the high level, universal indoor public masking is recommended.

Prison cases

Centre County’s two state prisons — Benner and Rockview — have no COVID-19 cases among inmates, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections.

Benner has one case among staff. Rockview has none.

At Benner, 1,399 inmates are fully vaccinated, 20 are partially vaccinated and 196 are not vaccinated. Among staff, 311 are fully vaccinated [-2] and 318 are not vaccinated [+2].

Rockview has 1,720 inmates who are fully vaccinated, two who are partially vaccinated and 81 who are not vaccinated. Among staff, 348 are fully vaccinated and 370 are not vaccinated.

Vaccinations

As of Monday morning, 94,846 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated, an increase of 27 since the last update on Saturday, and 14,225 are partially covered [+3]. Booster doses have been administered to 49,894 county residents [+36].

Among the county’s entire population, 69.9% have received at least one dose, 59.4% are fully vaccinated and 51.4% are fully vaccinated with a booster, according to the CDC. Among adult residents, 75.2% have received at least one dose, 63.6% are fully vaccinated and 54% have received a booster.

Statewide, 77.1% of adults and 67.7% of the total population are fully vaccinated.

Vaccination appointments are available through Centre Volunteers in MedicineMount Nittany Health and through other pharmacies and providers listed at vaccines.gov.

All individuals age 12 and older are eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot. All individuals 50 and older and certain immunocompromised individuals are now eligible for a second booster shot.
