Centre County reported 40 new COVID-19 cases on Friday to increase its total to 17,556, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
Pennsylvania added 3,509 new positives, bringing the statewide total to 1,288,041.
The county also reported 104 negative test results for a total of 75,061. Statewide, there were 10,412 new negatives for a total of 5,111,559.
According to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard, 21 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in Centre County, one fewer than on Thursday. Two are in intensive care and two are on ventilators.
Statewide, Pennsylvania has 1,722 COVID-19 inpatients, an increase of 77 since Thursday, with 476 in intensive care [+2] and 203 on ventilators [+7]. Hospitalizations are at their highest level since May 12.
DOH reported no new deaths attributed to the virus among Centre County residents, keeping its total at 230 for the ninth consecutive day.
With 22 new COVID-19 deaths statewide, Pennsylvania’s total is now 28,180.
An estimated 94% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, according to a DOH calculation.
Centre County remains at the substantial level for community transmission of COVID-19 — the second highest on the Centers for Disease Control scale — as of the CDC’s latest county-level data update on Thursday afternoon. Neighboring Blair, Clearfield, Huntingdon, Mifflin and Union counties are at the highest level, while Clinton is also at substantial.
As of Friday morning, 80,078 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated and 6,460 are partially covered. According to the CDC, about 59% of the county’s entire population has received at least one dose.
Vaccination appointments for ages 12 and older are available through Centre Volunteers in Medicine, Mount Nittany Health and through other pharmacies and providers listed at vaccines.gov.
