Centre County recorded 45 new COVID-19 cases over the past two days to bring its total to 34,575, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Among total cases, 30,722 are confirmed and 3,853 are probable.
DOH did not update its COVID-19 dashboard on Monday, so Tuesday’s data includes increases for both days.
Centre County’s seven-day moving average for new cases is 39, the lowest its been since early November. The average is down from 54 a week ago and 74 two weeks ago.
Pennsylvania reported 2,600 new positives over the two days to increase the statewide total to 2,746,745.
The commonwealth’s seven-day average is 2,495, the lowest since mid-August. It’s down from 3,695 a week ago and 5,129 two weeks ago.
Hospitalizations
Local COVID-19 hospitalizations are at their lowest level since early September. Mount Nittany Medical Center had 19 COVID-19 patients on Tuesday, four fewer than on Monday, with none in intensive care or on ventilators for the ninth consecutive day.
The patients range in age from 49 to 100, according to Mount Nittany’s COVID-19 inpatient dashboard. Six are fully vaccinated and 13 are not vaccinated.
Statewide, COVID-19 hospitalizations are at their lowest level since Aug. 30. According to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard, 1,814 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in Pennsylvania, 66 fewer than on Monday, with 318 patients in intensive care [-25] and 191 on ventilators [-17].
Deaths
DOH did not update COVID-19 death statistics on Tuesday. As of the last update, Pennsylvania has had 42,789 deaths attributed to COVID-19, including 335 in Centre County.
Nursing and personal care home cases
Long-term care facilities in Centre County reported three new COVID-19 cases among residents and two among employees. A total of 20 nursing and personal care homes in the county have had a combined 776 resident cases, 748 employee cases and 182 resident deaths.
Prison cases
According to the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, Benner state prison has seven active COVID-19 cases among inmates, three fewer than the last update on Sunday, and six among staff [-3].
Rockview state prison has no active inmate cases [-1] and three among staff [-1].
Both facilities are in Benner Township.
At Benner, 1,462 inmates are fully vaccinated, 18 are partially vaccinated and 188 are not vaccinated. Among staff, 314 are fully vaccinated and 314 are not vaccinated.
Rockview has 1,696 inmates who are fully vaccinated and 63 who are not vaccinated. Among staff, 350 are fully vaccinated [+1] and 367 are not vaccinated [-1].
Transmission level
Centre County remains at the highest level for community transmission of COVID-19 on the Centers for Disease Control scale, according to the latest county-level data update.
Statewide, 63 of 67 counties are at the high level, with Delaware, Lehigh, Philadelphia and Sullivan counties listed as substantial, the second highest level on the CDC scale.
Transmission levels are based on positivity rate and cases per 100,000 people for the previous seven days. At the substantial and high levels, CDC guidance recommends all people, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks in public indoor settings.
Vaccinations
As of Tuesday morning, 93,863 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated, an increase of 115 since figures were last updated on Friday, and 14,076 are partially covered [+21]. Booster doses have been administered to 48,431 county residents [+165].
Among the county’s entire population, 69.2% have received at least one dose, 58.9% are fully vaccinated and 50.4% are fully vaccinated with a booster, according to the CDC. Among adult residents, 74.5% have received at least one dose, 63.1% are fully vaccinated and 53% have received a booster.
Statewide, 76.3% of adults and 66.8% of the total population are fully vaccinated.
Vaccination appointments are available through Centre Volunteers in Medicine, Mount Nittany Health and through other pharmacies and providers listed at vaccines.gov.
All individuals age 12 and older are now eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot.
