Centre County Adds 74 COVID-19 Cases; Pennsylvania Reports 5,417 New Positives

Centre County reported 74 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday to increase its total to 22,188, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Among total cases, 19,985 are confirmed and 2,203 are probable.

Pennsylvania added 5,417 positives to bring the statewide total to 1,686,169.

The county also had 100 new negative test results, bringing its total of 84,154. Statewide, there were 6,810 negatives for a total of 5,857,603.

Deaths

DOH reported no new deaths attributed to the virus among Centre County residents, keeping the total at 254.

With 13 new COVID-19 deaths identified by the Pennsylvania death registry, the statewide total is now 32,924.

Hospitalizations

According to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard, 33 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in Centre County, three fewer than on Saturday, with three in intensive care [-1] and three on ventilators [+1].

Pennsylvania has 3,097 COVID-19 inpatients, two more than on Saturday, with 734 in intensive care [-4] and 395 on ventilators [+11]. The statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations are the most since Feb. 4.

An estimated 92% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, according to a DOH calculation that considers a case as recovered if it has not been reported as a death and it is more than 30 days past the date of the first positive test or onset of symptoms.

Prison cases

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, Benner state prison has 75 active COVID-19 cases among inmates — three times more than the second highest state correctional facility — and 16 among staff. Rockview state prison has three active inmate cases and four among staff. Both facilities are in Benner Township.

At Benner, 1,574 inmates are fully vaccinated, 14 are partially vaccinated and 198 are not vaccinated. Among staff, 277 are fully vaccinated and 351 are not vaccinated.

Rockview has 1,660 inmates who are fully vaccinated and 61 who are not vaccinated. Among staff, 325 are fully vaccinated and 392 are not vaccinated.

Transmission level

All 67 counties in Pennsylvania are at the highest level for community transmission of COVID-19 on the Centers for Disease Control scale, according to the latest county-level data update on Saturday.

Transmission levels are based on positivity rate and cases per 100,000 people for the previous seven days. At the substantial and high levels, CDC guidance recommends all people, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks in public indoor settings.

Vaccinations

As of Sunday morning morning, 86,165 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated [+66 since Saturday] and 10,721 are partially covered [+145]. Third doses have been administered to 20,082 county residents [+369].

Among the county’s entire population, 71.1% have received at least one dose and 55.9% are fully vaccinated, according to the CDC. Among adult residents, 77.8% have received at least one dose and 62.2% are fully vaccinated.

Statewide, 73.4% of adults and 62% of the total population are fully vaccinated. Pennsylvania is fifth in the nation for total doses administered, according the CDC.

All adults are now eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot.
